Evocative and mysterious, this beautifully patinated rug seems to embody secrets of the ages. It is a remarkably accurate representation of a 15th century masterwork from the Caucasus (East Asia Minor), conserved in the Islamic Art collection of Berlins National Museums. The original version is woven of tightly twisted woolen yarns richly pigmented in blue and red with cream and yellow. It depicts highly stylized figural designs of animals and birds amidst trees and flowers. Included among the fauna are imperial dragons which give thisœDragon Carpet its name.
